| Calendar Side Panel |
The Calendar side panel is now working properly apart from on the Home Page. Due to the way the software "builds" the Home Page, using the calendar navigation arrows or drop downs to move between months causes the News page to load instead of the Home Page. A new version of the software is due to be released shortly; whether it will resolve this particular irritant remains to be seen. |

| Lifetime Achievement Award for John Wylson |
Warm congratulations to John Wylson, an RN&SYC member for more than a quarter of a century, on receiving a ‘Lifetime Achievement Award’ from the Transport Trust.
John and his original partners brought Excelsior back to Lowestoft in 1972 – with the aid of several large pumps. HRH The Princess Royal recommissioned the boat in 1988 – although even then, the interior wasn’t quite finished. Everything above three planks below the waterline had to be replaced and the authenticity of the reconstruction was recognised by the National Maritime Museum who listed Excelsior as one of the fifty or so most important historic vessels in the UK. At the time, she was the only one still capable of putting to sea. Today, she is the only surviving English fishing smack still equipped to trawl in the traditional manner. Excelsior earns her keep as a sail training ship and since her rebuild has taken roughly nine thousand, often disadvantaged young people to sea and sailed the equivalent of four times around the globe. This hugely photogenic vessel also happens to be the most conspicuous part of Lowestoft’s proud maritime heritage.
The presentation of the award will take place tomorrow, June 24th, at the RAF Museum in Hendon. In terms of creating something so the world can see where you’ve been, Excelsior is an example to be truly proud about. A lifetime’s work!

| Open Art Exhibition at the RNSYC |
On Friday 26th, Sat 27th and Sunday 28th June an Art Exhibition is being held at the RNSYC as part of the club's 150th Anniversary celebrations
Friday 26th is a day for RNSYC members and their guests. Following a 'meet the artists' lunch (£12.50), local artist Roly Abbott will give a demonstration of watercolour painting.
On Saturday and Sunday, the clubhouse will be open to members of the public to have a look at the paintings, buy them if they wish, or just take a relaxed look around the iconic 1903 Art Nouveau building. Club bars and restaurant will be open on both days and on Saturday evening there will be an informal, two course supper (£12.50 pp), together with a talk by local author Jamie Campbell on the club's 150 year history. Members of the public are most welcome to attend the supper, where copies of the new club history will be available for signature by the author. To assist with catering arrangements, the club would be grateful if suppers were booked by telephoning 01502 - 566726.
The clubhouse will close at 4.00 pm on Sunday June 28th. |

| Scroby Sand Picnic |
Weather permitting, this year's Scroby Sand Picnic will now take place on Sunday 21st June. All members and guests welcome, sailors or not. Please sign up on the club notice board. Boat owners please indicate spare berths if available. This annual event is great fun and always arouses considerable interest among the resident Scroby seal population. Don't miss it! |

| Toppers at the RNSYC |
On Saturday 4th and Sunday 5th July, the RNSYC will once again welcome Toppers from around the region for a training day (on Saturday) and Eastern Area Traveller event (Sunday). Last year the weather caused the event to be moved to Oulton Broad; hopefully this year it will be more co-operative and the Toppers will enjoy some equally good sea sailing.

| Classified Ads |
I've removed the Classified Ads section on RNSYC.NET. It was clearly of no interest to members with only two ads posted in two years, one being the ad for which I set up the section in the first place! Motto, as in the case of brain cells: "Use it or lose it"! |
