The RN&SYC in conjunction with Eastern Horizon Training will be running an improved selection
of both theory and practical training courses for our Members. We have multiple dates available

Essential Navigation & Seamanship- One Day Course £230
This classroom course, via RYA Interactive self study, provides a basic knowledge of navigation at sea and seamanship.

Day Skipper Shore-based Theory- Five Day Course £420
This classroom course provides a comprehensive introduction to chart work,
navigation, meteorology and the basics of seamanship for competent crew and helmsmen.
No previous experience necessary.

Coastal Skipper/ Yachtmaster Shore-based Theory- Five Day Course £420
This is an advanced course in navigation and meteorology for candidates for the Coastal Skipper and Yachtmaster Offshore Certificate. (Recommended for holders of Day Skipper, First Aid & VHF Certificate’s)

Marine VHF SRC Radio – Two Day Course £165 Including Assessment & Licence Fee)
This course provides crews with the Marine Radio Short Range Certificate (SRC)
Which authorises the holder to operate a VHF radio telephone, fitted with Digital Selective Calling (DSC) on board any British Vessel. VHF allows ship to ship or ship to shore communication in accordance with International Rules and procedures. It is a legal requirement that you have attended a VHF SRC course before using a radio at sea.

RYA First Aid Course- One Day Course £125
The emphasis of this course is on medical emergencies at sea and how to deal with them. The course includes topics such as Hyperthermia and Hypothermia, stroke, drowning, cold shock, CPR, head injuries and emergency evacuation by helicopter or other vessels.

Radar Course- One Day Course £125
You will learn the operating principals as well as the limitations of RADAR. We use the latest Light Master simulators so you will learn pilotage and collision avoidance without putting you vessel in jeopardy. You will also be able to interpret what you see on the screen.


Powerboat Level 2 + Tidal Endorsement- Two Day Course £320
This course teaches boat handling and seamanship in powerboats. It may be conducted in
a variety of boat types, both planing and displacement, and the certificate issued will show
the type(s) of boat in which the training took place. The training at RN&SYC includes a
Tidal Endorsement for coastal waters.

International Certificate of Competence (ICC) – Motor and Sail £150 (Own Boat)
The course will test boat handling and knowledge of voyage, tides, traffic separation,
navigation etc with the option of taking the course on your own boat.

Intermediate Powerboat- Two Day Course £320
Learn more about charts, tides, planning a passage and how to use electronic navigation
effectively then undertake a passage with one of our instructors on board to put the skills
into practice.

Advanced Powerboat- Two Day Course (Including Night Passage) £340
Aimed at experienced leisure boaters and those seeking to work commercially. The
Advanced Course can be followed by the Advanced day/night assessment. Addresses areas
such as night navigation, rough water handling and search patterns.
