We had the great pleasure of hosting some of the finest young sailors in the British Isles this weekend with 153 entries for the TOPPER National Series 6 dinghy races. The wind was certainly challenging on Saturday – we apparently experienced a highly unusual meteorological ‘Ice Storm’ over Lowestoft and the race area at sea which produced massive 90 – 100deg wind shifts in seconds, that made the race officers work very challenging. The net result was that competitors were spending upwards of six and a half hours on the water – but they still returned with a smile on their faces. Sundays racing went much more smoothly (NO strange metrological happenings..!!) with some nice onshore winds keeping the waves relatively light which made for good sailing conditions.
As a huge bonus to the event, 11 year old RN&SYC Member Tom Thwaites was triumphant in the 4.2 class Topper Fleet.
