Does anyone know what the depth is alongside the pontoons at Lw Neaps? It sounds as if it would make a nice place to go for a night or two, and a change from the roaring tide in Southwold. |

Good heavens Iain! Are you suggesting turning to PORT on leaving Lowestoft harbour  ? I've always believed I'd fall over the edge of the world if I did THAT ..... or at least if I went beyond S. Scroby  . |

Well Peter, one always has to be close to the edge , in some cases. You must be a person fond of the sound of leather hitting willow, and then SPLASH. Having spoken to someone since my last question, the answer seems to be, in the words of Paul Daniels "Not a lot". |

Iain, Wells is one of the destinations we fancy next season, we have visited by car and it looks fine even at low water (for mooring that is not getting in and out of estuary) We ought to try a get 3/4 boats up for a long weekend or even May bank Hol?

Thank's Steve, for that. It would make for a change of scenery and it would also be sheltered in a strong Southerly wind.

Hi Iain,
I have every intention of visiting Wells next season, Once I have looked at the tide timetable I will pick a weekend, It's interesting to get into but at least you have a 2 hour window +- high tide, lovely pontoons and the harbour master is one of the most helpful you will meet.

That sounds like a good idea. I thought I might go up by car and sound out the Harbour Master, as to available depth. I would just over a meter at low water. I will let people know when I am going and if they want to come they can

I'll be going up there over the xmass period and will pick up a tide timetable myself then start to plan the trip. I would not going in there at low water as the channel is very narrow and shallow, I think the 2 hour window either side of high water should be sufficient, it just means you have to pick the times you enter and leave, its about a 50 mile trip from the mouth of Gt Yarmouth to the bar at Wells so it would be a nice early season cruise.
