Received 1st June 2011:
"Some members have expressed concerns with regard to the supply of diesel from the Royal Norfolk & Suffolk Yacht Club.
Total Butler, our main supplier, has confirmed that the diesel fuel is a low sulphur diesel with no Fatty-Acid Methyl Ester (FAME) included. Should the club change suppliers, we will of course ensure the same quality of fuel is used.
If you have any queries concerning this or any other matter please do not hesitate to contact me.
Simon Cadle

Yes, it does. This reminder was prompted by an incident in which a crew member from a visiting Dutch yacht rafted up on the visitors' pontoon was in the water for precisely that reason (inspecting the prop) when the Pilot Boat came back in. The prohibition is the harbour authority's, not the club's.

Dates from my naval days Jamie, when those in the signals branch were known as "Bunts" (or more expressively "bunting tossers" ). Depends on which "authorities" one favours but, in my defence:

Not at all convinced the generic for flags is "bunting". I understand bunting to mean a set of (international?) code flags used to dress overall on high days and holidays. 'Flags' cannot be incorrect - or even simply club burgees and ensigns ... View comment in context

Whilst I'm at it - it's not beyond the wit of man to sort out the club car park. Improved parking facilities will impact on the profitability of other activities in the clubhouse. No effective action has been taken over club car parking since a corner was resurfaced in 1995 - in fact the situation has worsened with containers (difficult to justifty additional space with such a large clubhouse), a marina office that blocks the view from the Dining room, even the double garage (incredibly erected to keep salt off a Club Secretary's car) restrict the car park. It's just a mess.
The club car park should be a priority. Not only is there potential for a public liability claim on the existing surfaces but it's quite unrealistic to expect to take more money in the clubhouse if potential customers can't get in.
With a sensibly sorted car park there's no need for a page of eleven or so 'rules' either! View comment in context
